Shadow Heroes translation workshops for GSCE-level students

Shadow Heroes is a series of challenging extra-curricular workshops all about translation. It is the only such project aimed at GCSE-level students of all languages including English. Taught by professional translators, the series are tailor-made to suit each school’s and student group’s needs and interests. The workshops stretch and enthuse students, and develop their language manipulation skills to make them top-flight communicators whatever career they choose to pursue.

Shadow Heroes works with a number of schools including University College School, City of London School for Girls and City Academy, Hackney. They are now looking to expand the Shadow Heroes community to include more schools and student groups.

The workshop leaders are professional translators whose working languages include Portuguese, French, Spanish and Gujarati. Workshop masterclasses are led by guest professionals including a UN interpreter, MTV subtitler, Oxford University lecturer, and more.

All Shadow Heroes workshops develop the skills students need to become confident and critical translators in any professional realm. Each workshop offers one of: a baseline training in key translation concepts and approaches; a masterclass in specific professional translation skills; a guided exploration of translation in different contexts, interrogating social and ethical situations.

Every series is tailor-made to each school’s specific interests: number of workshops, length, frequency and focus can all be adjusted to create a course designed for your students.
