Following the success of last years’ competitions the Poetry Book Society has again partnered with Mslexia (the magazine for women’s writing) to launch two major women’s poetry prizes for 2019. Both competitions are now open and close 5pm GMT 16th September 2019.
The Women’s Poetry Competition will be judged by the UK poet and founder of Malika’s Poetry Kitchen, Malika Booker. Entrants can win up to £2,000, publication in Mslexia and the PBS Bulletin poetry magazine, a mentorship with Sandeep Parmar and a writing retreat at Scotland’s International Artist Residency Centre, Cove Park.
The Women’s Pamphlet Competition offers women poets the life-changing opportunity to publish a pamphlet with leading independent publisher, Seren. This year’s competition winner also has the added bonus of a £250 cash prize alongside publication in the Mar/Apr/May 2020 issue of Mslexia and a feature in the PBS Summer Bulletin.
‘We are delighted to continue this partnership with Mslexia. The PBS promotes the very best of contemporary poetry and the Women’s Poetry Competitions are the perfect opportunity for us to support emerging talent and to share these new voices with our members.’ – Sophie O’Neill, PBS & Inpress Director
Debbie Taylor (founder and Editorial Director) of Mslexia, ‘Partnering with the PBS has promoted our annual Women’s Poetry Competitions to a new level and introduces the winners and finalists to some of the most committed and influential poetry readers in the UK.’
