UK Children’s reading charity BookTrust is launching a new project, ‘In Other Words’, to promote the translation and UK publication of outstanding children’s literature from around the world.
Funded by Arts Council England, BookTrust will sponsor sample translations from 10 children’s books, which have not previously been published in the English language, and present them to the UK publishing community at an event at the Bologna Book Fair on 4th April 2017. Four of these titles will be selected as specially commended ‘honour titles’ and all 10 titles will be available for British publishers to purchase from the rights holders. Titles that are purchased by British publishers will be supported by a £1500 grant towards marketing, publicity and touring in the UK.
Selection will be carried out by a panel of experts chosen by BookTrust, including top children’s translators and children’s book experts.
BookTrust is asking publishers, agents and scouts from around the world for submissions of children’s books that are not currently published in English, but would be suitable for publishing in the UK. Submissions, which need to be made via the entry form open from 1st September until 26th September 2016.
