The opening event of London’s European Poetry Festival is a celebration of contemporary literary and avant-garde European poetry, with poets from over a dozen nations presenting new works, performances and readings. Showcasing the dynamic energy and innovation so defining of 21st European poetry, this is an amazing opportunity to see some of the most exciting contemporary poets from all over Europe.

Writer’s Centre Kingston is a founding partner of The European Poetry Festival and this event begins ten days of events and workshops. Events confirmed as part of the wider festival include a European Poetry Night at Rich Mix, which builds on previous events from years past.

Born in Paris in 1963, French poet, novelist, filmmaker and translator Pierre Alferi is the author of some twelve books of poetry as well as four novels and four works in film. He also works in visual art, at times blending drawing and writing, and has frequently collaborated with musicians, other visual artists, and filmmakers; in particular, he has worked extensively to develop the genre of the cinépoème and the short lyric film. He has recently expanded into monumental public art with a series of calligrammatic panels for a tram line in Paris. He’s also the translator of an unusually wide range of writers, from John Donne to George Oppen, and the co-founder of two literary journals, Détail, with Suzanne Doppelt, and La Revue de Littérature Générale, with Olivier Cadiot. He has received fellowships and grants from the Villa Medici in Rome, the Fondation Royaumont outside of Paris, and numerous other bodies, and he currently teaches at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee as well as at the École de Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs.
