In a session that brings together ELN writers Burhan Sӧnmez (Turkey), Gabriela Babnik (Slovenia) and Jaap Robben (Netherlands), Fiona Doloughan (Senior Lecturer in English, Open University) will explore the interwoven worlds we inhabit and the narratives that respond to them: travelling from an underground prison in Istanbul to an island somewhere between Scotland and Norway, to the dusty streets of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
It will consider extremes of both place and in the human psyche that our writers explore through their characters. To what extent do they see their writing as a kind of social activism? And what do they discover from their readers once out in the world?
